Ex Nihilo - Adeline

This song was written and recorded just after my friend Kyle's death by electrocution in a baptismal. The lyrics are adapted from the sermon he was to give that day but was never able to deliver. The sermon was an exhortation to love God, embrace beauty and live life to the fullest. The title was taken from a sermon delivered by Don Vanderslice a couple of weeks after Kyle's death. Ex Nihilo is a latin phrase meaning out of nothing. - John Perkins

The Revolution Choir - Alex Dupree & the Trapdoor Band

The parade has slowly made its way to the border of the promised land, only to find it heavily fortified.  It will not be given to us simply.  We must come to it through struggle.  But with dancing, with resplendent strings, and with tejano bass pounding through the walls, we can celebrate our first glimpse of the promise that is our hope: that in this land, "Our bandages weave into our wedding gown."  -Alex Dupree

The People Not Profit compilation album will be released December 13. Below is some of the music you'll hear at the release party. CDs available here, $10.

The Summer Song - Balmorhea

This music comes from a place that is larger than the members of one group or another. Larger than one person's ideas or labor. We live in this community, among friends and lovers who enable us to reach beyond the borders of our own self expression and say something that is unrestricted. We are all part of one great band." - Balmorhea

The Ballad of The Whiskey Priest - The Whiskey Priest

Our world loves progress. We are swept away by it and lost in our worship of it. We bury and build atop the past, and sell the present out to the first prospective buyer, all the while making bids for our place amongst legend, fame, and immortality.

Screw that. Everything comes to an end. Don't run from the flames. Let it burn. - The Whiskey Priest

Bridges to Bridges - Case Studies

T. Crelia shining in technicolor brilliance, featuring such profound lines as "overneath the underpass, I can't find you."

Birth is a funny thing...It can't be undone by the sea.
