The history of People not profit and the idea for People Clothing goes back to January 2005 and the Asian Tsunami. While my wife Dee and sister Kayti were in Aceh, Indonesia as part of a medical relief team, my brother Patrick and I (unwillingly) stayed behind, and wanting desperately to contribute to the cause, we decided to make t-shirts and sell coffee to raise money for the people of Aceh. Our efforts were successful, and well supported by family and friends. Seven months later, in the summer of 2005, I began to dream of the possibilities for a sustained (and sustainable) venture toward raising money for, awareness of, and people’s involvement in projects that help people in the developing world. After setting the dream aside for another seven months, last Spring we decided to go for it and see what happened. What has happened so far has been really encouraging. Our friends and family have been unbelievably supportive and have helped make all this work. Our hope and belief is that this is the start of a movement that goes far beyond clothes, fundraising and projects, and will impact our lives, our neighbors and this aching, beautiful world.
