The Revolution Choir - Recorded July 2007 in the 29th St. Co-op.

The parade has slowly made its way to the border of the promised land, only to find it heavily fortified.  It will not be given to us simply.  We must come to it through struggle.  But with dancing, with resplendent strings, and with tejano bass pounding through the walls, we can celebrate our first glimpse of the promise that is our hope: that in this land, "Our bandages weave into our wedding gown."  -Alex Dupree

If there was an anthem for People Not Profit, it would be, or maybe is, The Revolution Choir. We were all there marching and dancing through the streets of Austin in the closing months of 2005, we’ve stood and sung it together on Sundays at Mosaic, referenced the lyrics countless times, and even thought about teaching it to the locals in El Salvador this past summer.  And if there is a metaphor that really gets at what People Not Profit is about, it’s a parade. There’s movement, we’re going the same direction together. No mapped route, but belief in where we’re headed and what we’re doing. Some lead, others follow, but we are together. Creatively combining our skills and our lives, we march on into the neighborhoods of Austin and the villages of El Salvador hoping that the sounds of our music can awaken a sleepy world and that more will join in the throng - will bring out pots and pans, spoons or kazoos, and add to the music. . .calling neighbors, parents, friends and enemies out to join the parade as well.

And above and through it all there is the unseen, barely heard, beckoning of the Leader. Sometimes silent, sometimes not, but always leading. We feel it. We know it. Where? We’re not sure. But we follow. Together.       –Tim Brosnan
