In the rolling grasslands of Northeastern
Rwanda, there is a newly settled community called Nyamirama. This community,
made up primarily of families who have returned to Rwanda after fleeing to
countries like Uganda and Tanzania during 1994’s genocide, is the focus of our
current campaign. One gaping hole to fill in this community is the lack of
adequate educational facilities. School buildings are sparse and dilapidated,
forcing many teachers to gather students under trees, in a part of the country
that often incurs violent wind and thunderstorms. In partnership with
Food
for the Hungry, we are working to raise money to build classrooms that will protect students from the elements and help facilitate learning for a promising generation of young Rwandans. So far we have raised $800 through t-shirt sales, and have secured sponsorship for 10 children living in Nyamirama.
